This book, Interior Decorating Etiquette, is a book that I found in Kinokuniya Book Store last week. This book is the second book of its writer, Jasmine Jean and was published in 2013, so this book is quite recent.
Starting off the book, Jean stated the definition of interior design and what makes it different with interior decorating, which is almost similar to what I found in Pietrowski's book that I reviewed before.
Then, the writer started to explain the current interior decorating trends, conditions and what makes it demanded right now. Who are the people working in the industry and what makes it still not well expanded is also discussed here.
According to the book, we can learn that culture is important in decorating and designing interiors which they said as the 'soul' of interior spaces. Culture can affect how the interior spaces are interpreted by the people who uses it as it delivers different meaning to different group of people.
The best part about this book for me is that it listed down interior decorating etiquette and culture based on the style that we are using, for example; Chinese style, French, American and so on with complete high quality colored images of the interior that reflects each style. It has some graphics that tells us what kind of furniture belongs to the specific style, their characteristic and what we must consider in designing the interior. This book can be a guide for designing spaces based on its surrounding place and the culture of the people who are going to use it.
In general, I think this book will be very useful for designers who want to expand their knowledge and career to a more diverse culture. It is worth the money and you can use it for very long time as a reference and guidance.
