Hi welcome back to my blog. In this post I am going to review another book written by Christine Piotrowski. This book is actually quite thick with more than 700 pages long, but very worth it to read as it will add our knowledge on being a professional designer.
To start of the book, she has described the interior design profession by defining it and what makes it different to an interior decorator. It also lists down the things that an interior designer will do in their scope of work which will mostly be using skills and knowledge that was learnt from education and practice. There are numerous interior design practitioners from big organisations (ASID, FASID, IIDA, etc) who gives their opinion on what they think is interior design and what they need to do. The book will also help us to make sure that this profession will suit you as they will tell you the signs that you are interested in interior design field.
Then, the book also has some sample projects that were done by some designers, complete with its photo that we can relate and refer to. It has an interview about the designers' view on interior design job and its qualities. Then, to follow, there is a guide on how to start your career in this field, starting from the preparation in education, learning the process and the different types of interior design, to starting a new career and creating a successful business out of it.
Overall, this book gives a brief yet complete overview on the interior design profession that can be understood even by beginners who do not have any knowledge on this topic. The words used here are also quite easy to understand. As stated in the cover page, this book could be a guide to careers in design, so it will be a good introduction to the world of interior designing.
